The Auburn University Board of Trustees approved the project architect selection of Chambless King Architects of Montgomery, Alabama, for the Foy Hall Student Veterans Resource Center renovation on Friday, June 5.

The project will expand space and resources dedicated to student veterans, helping better accommodate their needs while increasing visibility and recognition across campus. This investment reinforces Auburn’s focus on supporting the transition from military service to academic life through a more centralized and accessible approach.

The renovated space will provide targeted support services, including academic advising, benefits assistance and opportunities for peer connection – all designed with student veterans’ unique experiences in mind. The approval also reaffirms Auburn’s continued effort to strengthen and grow resources for this population.

“As a veteran, I understand how important it is to have a place where student veterans feel seen, supported and connected,” said Tracy Roberts, Auburn University’s First Lady. “This renovation reflects Auburn’s dedication to making sure our student veterans have the resources and community they need to succeed.”

The project aligns with broader institutional priorities to enhance support through expanded programming, improved facilities and stronger community connections. With approximately 500 student veterans enrolled at Auburn, along with more than 1,400 military-affiliated family members, the renovation is expected to meaningfully enhance the student experience on a wider scale.

“The sacrifices made by our nation's service members deserve to be honored in ways that create lasting impact,” said Bobby Woodard, senior vice president for the Division of Student Affairs. “One of the most meaningful ways Auburn can recognize fallen veterans and those who have served is by ensuring today's student veterans have the support they need to succeed. This renovation honors that service by expanding resources and opportunities for student veterans while serving as a lasting tribute to those who came before them.”

Through a coordinated effort between Facilities Management and Student Affairs, the project reflects a long-term, institution-wide strategy. It demonstrates that support for student veterans is embedded not only in programming, but also in campus planning and capital investment decisions.

“As more student veterans choose Auburn to complete their education, this project marks an important step toward creating a dedicated place where they can connect, find support and pursue their goals. An expanded Veterans Resource Center will strengthen their Auburn experience and position the university as a premier destination for military-connected students,” said Captain Paul Esposito, director of the Veteran Resource Center.

The renovation represents an intentional investment in student veteran success as prioritized by the president and Board of Trustees. By strengthening access to services, creating a dedicated environment for connection and aligning resources with student needs, Auburn is positioning itself to better recruit, retain and graduate student veterans. With unanimous support from the Board and across all of university leadership, Auburn is making its commitment to student veterans a visible, lasting part of the campus experience.
