Gadsden Athletic Center
The Gadsden Athletic Center exists to give the City of Gadsden a recreation hub where residents can pursue fitness and play within their own community. While service to the community is the primary goal, the center's economic viability is set to strengthen the local economy, generating hotel stays and visitor spending through its capacity to host regional tournaments across volleyball, basketball, pickleball, swimming, baseball, and softball.
The center pairs bright, white exterior and interior walls with natural daylight to create an open, energizing environment. Its centerpiece is a 24,000-square-foot indoor wellness and workout facility, complete with weight and cardio training, exercise classrooms, sauna, cold plunge, and tanning. Eight (8) competition basketball and volleyball courts anchor the building, alongside a 5,000-square-foot conference center, family fun and entertainment center, and one-fifth-mile elevated indoor/outdoor walking track with 100-meter straight-sprint capability. The aquatics program features a 6-lane competition pool and an additional recreational pool.
Outdoors, the campus extends across three (3) baseball/softball fields, two (2) natural playgrounds, open park space, and a plaza with water features. A perimeter biking and walking trail connects to the existing Black Creek Walking Trail, while a dedicated pickleball facility offers 12 indoor and four (4) outdoor courts. Concessions and a maintenance building round out the site.
