East Gadsden Community Pool
The East Gadsden Community Pool expands an existing community center through the addition of a new pool and 2,800-square-foot, open-air pavilion which houses restrooms, a pump room for pool equipment, and janitorial space.
The pavilion draws from the existing community center without imitating it, shaping a clear entry sequence and providing generous covered seating. Its beige, cream, and brown palette blends with the original building, and the roof form echoes it. From there the design takes its own direction. The building turns away from the pool to align with the parking lot on the opposite side, and the back edge of the roof steps off the line of the original structure. A deep cantilevered roof lifts and reaches out over the entry, shading the open seating at the approach to the pool. Louvers along the sides keep air moving through the pavilion while screening the interior restrooms for privacy.
Simple and open by design, the pavilion adds a welcoming amenity to the existing recreation center and reflects Gadsden's broader commitment to invest in public spaces across the city.
