Albertville city officials invited the community to a town hall meeting Tuesday to discuss the future of the local public library after a fire rendered the building unusable four months ago.
Lightning struck the Albertville Public Library back in May, sparking a fire that has left the city without a library since then. City leaders emphasized the library's historical significance, noting it has been a community pillar since the early 1960s.
"We're very much looking forward to creating, long-term goal, that special space where we can bring everybody back together," said Robin Lathan of the City of Albertville.
Chambless King Architects is spearheading the new design, with city officials saying the firm has successfully completed other major projects in Albertville, including the Sand Mountain Amphitheater and Park.
Mike Shows, a partner at Chambless King Architects, highlighted the importance of community input, stating, "Before we start going a direction with design, we really need to really get a pulse on the community."
The town hall allowed residents to participate in surveys and activities, view design ideas, and contribute to shaping a space for future generations. The timeline for the new library involves approximately six months of design work, followed by 12 to 18 months for construction.
